Lollapalooza 2012: What a lineup!
It’s been about five years since I spent my first weekend watching my favorite bands at one of the best musical festivals in the country, Lollapalooza. I remember waking up early to be first in line at 7 a.m. as well as running to the front of the stage as soon as the festival was open each morning. I remember receiving massive sunburns and meeting some of my favorite bands at the autograph tents. I remember leaving the festival around midnight with a hoarse voice and massive dehydration, but also with some of my favorite, and most memorable, memories.
One thing I can say about my past Lollapalooza experiences is that I always was looking forward to just two or three bands. I would stake out a stage all day to see my favorite band and then relax the rest of the day going from stage to stage seeing whoever I wanted with no stress or rush. That strategy will not work this year because this year I want to see EVERY SINGLE BAND. I will be running around like a chicken with its head cut off to try and see all of the bands I want to see. But it will be worth it. So worth it.
I’ve decided to include a list of all the bands I want to see (despite the fact that some are playing on different stages on other sides of the festival at the same time):
Passion Pit
Sigur Ros
Bloc Party
Jack White
Yellow Ostrich
The Shins
Florence + The Machine
Trampled by Turtles
The Tallest Man on Earth
Metric
Santigold
Polica
The Jezabels
Justice
Of Monsters and Men
Madeon
Bombay Bicycle Club
Boy do I have a problem this year.
Other than seeing some of my favorite bands, I’m also looking forward to the nightly dance parties, the autograph tents and overpriced beer. One year there was a few Rock n Roll nuns who were offering communion and a there was also scavenger hunt via mobile phone as well as multiple contests throughout the day. If Lollapalooza 2012 is anything like its past years, especially with this lineup, I can guarantee it will be one awesome weekend festival.
