What has inspired you to become a musician/song writer?
“Growing up, my parents were musicians, so I was exposed to a surplus of music. My father is a guitarist, and I fell in love with the amazing sounds that could be produced by different guitars and amps. When I started writing music I felt, simply, happy. It was wonderful to find something I love so much, and it never gets old.”
How old were you when you began writing music?
“I’ve been coming up with chord progressions since I started playing guitar at 12, but only realized I could write lyrics and melodies when I was 16.”
Where and when is the best place and time for you to write new music and lyrics?
“When something is heavy on my heart I’ll spend hours playing guitar and writing in my bedroom. It’s the best way for me to sort out any problems I have.”
What/who inspired your single “leave it behind”?
“It was inspired primarily by my hometown, Cape Town, which I have mixed feelings about. It really is a beautiful place, and I do love it, but often I feel like I just want to start over, in some other place. The thought of getting on a plane and just leaving sounds absolutely magical to me.”
What age group is your music directed towards?
“Honestly, I’ve never thought about it much. I’ve had people of all age groups telling me they enjoy my music, and whether you’re 16 or 60, I’m just happy to make people smile.”
How do you feel when you finish writing a new song/ recording a new song?
“I feel a great sense of accomplishment. Like I’m actually doing something meaningful with my life. I feel like I’ve finally found my place in the world.”
What are some bands/singers you would want to be compared to?
“I like to think I’m inspired mainly by three people; Christofer Drew of Never Shout Never, Chase Coy, and Stephen Jerzak. Of course there are many others, but I sometimes think of myself as a combination of the three of them.”
Aside for music what do you like to do?
“I’m an avid gamer. When I find a game I enjoy I usually have it finished within a weekend. I’m also absolutely fascinated with dreams. I often attempt lucid dreaming, and have about two lucid dreams a month. Throughout the day I have to double-check to make sure I’m not dreaming.”
What is your biggest dream?
“To be able to live my life by just playing music. I don’t think I’d be able to work a 9 to 5 job which would push music to a mere hobby.”
If you had 3 wishes what would you wish for and why?
“1-Eternal happiness – I believe wholeheartedly that the most important thing in life is to be happy, no matter the circumstances. 2- The girl of my dreams 3- Flight. Yeah, that would be pretty rad.”
