“Ex’s & Oh’s” is the lead single from Elle King’s first studio album, Love Stuff. The song was released in September of 2014 while album was released in February 2015. “Ex’s & Oh’s” received success in the rock genre peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs Chart and was certified Gold by Music Canada. In September 2015, the song reached the top of the Alternative song charts becoming the second song by a solo female to top the Alternative chart since 1996, the first artist to do it was Lorde with “Royals.”

The “Ex’s & Oh’s” music video debuted in May of 2015 with a cameo made by Sandra Bullock. The video takes place around a barbecue thrown by Elle featuring scantily clad men and scenes with obvious sexual innuendos. Many critics praised the video for subverting the objectification of women that is common in contemporary music and its videos.

“Ex’s & Oh’s” is an uptempo song with a lot of country and blues rock influences. The song’s co-writer and producer, Dave Bassett credits the song with helping to shape the rest of Love Stuff‘s sound. I find this song super catchy and it hasn’t left my head since I heard Elle play it live in May at Beale Street Music Festival. Something about the ballsiness and brashness of it just keeps me pressing replay and singing along every time. So, in support of my addiction with this song I chose my Top 5 favorite covers of “Ex’s & Oh’s” by Elle King, vote for your favorite below!
