Sundance Film Festival 2016 Announces 65 Films In Various Categories

The Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film event celebrating an array of cinematic excellence from all over the world, announces 65 films in various categories competing in 2016. The categories in which these films are slated to compete include U.S. Dramatic Competition, The World Cinema Dramatic Competition and The Next Competition.

Founded in 1981 by actor Robert Redford, the Sundance Institute is a nonprofit organization with the goal of honoring and supporting creative expression through film. With its grants, labs and mentoring programs, the Sundance Institute takes an active role in connecting audiences to the imaginative vision of talented filmmakers.

There were over 12,000 submissions for the 2016 Festival. From this impressive number, the final roster includes 120 feature-length films representing 37 countries. In addition, there were 48 first time filmmakers, 28 of which are in the competition.

The U.S. Dramatic Competition will premiere 16 narrative feature films. Sixteen American documentaries are entered. The World Cinema Dramatic Competition boasts 12 films hailing from countries such as Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Colombia, United Kingdom, India, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Germany, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Poland, Israel, Ireland, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Luxembourg and China. Finally, the Next Competitions focus on digital technology to tell the cinematic story. Films in this category are presented by Adobe.

The Sundance Film Festival will take place January 21-31, 2016 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
