2016 Oscars Predictions

The 88th Academy Awards are just around the corner, and once again people of color are noticeably absent from the nominations. The nominations sparked controversy online through the trend #OscarsSoWhite, and will most definitely be the subject of many jokes from host Chris Rock.

Jada Pinkett Smith has voiced her dissatisfaction for this year’s nominees, and has proposed a boycott of the ceremony. While on one hand some celebrities, such as Spike Lee, are joining her in not attending, others agree but will still attend the show on February 28th. In an effort to prevent any other cancellations, Oscars producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin announced the first round of presenters and performers that is certainly more diverse than the nomination pool. Among these are Benicio Del Toro, Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg, Ryan Gosling, Kevin Hart, Lady Gaga, Sam Smith, Charlize Theron, Jacob Tremblay, The Weeknd, and Pharrell Williams.
