Exclusive Interview with Prosper Mbongue-Muna from MTV’s Are You The One?
If you tuned in to watch the season 4 premiere of Are You The One? earlier this week, you know the name Prosper Muna. The 25-year-old New Yorker’s smile and personality made us fall head over heels over him within minutes.
In the show, 10 women and 10 guys who haven’t had much luck with love travel to Hawaii to try to find their perfect match through challenges, and Prosper was right in the middle of the drama from the get go. He was given the unfortunate honor of being thrown into the truth booth, the only way to know if a couple is a confirmed perfect match, on the first day.
Our MTV fan correspondent, Amy Mancini, and I had the opportunity to talk to Prosper about what was going through his mind that first day,
Was this your first time being in Hawaii?
“Yeah! It was my first time being in Hawaii! I’m from New York and I loved it! I loved Hawaii it was beautiful, the beach, the house, the people, the energy, it was beautiful.”
Have you ever wanted to do reality television before?
“I was always open to it. I never was like ‘I want to do reality TV’ though. I was just open to the entertainment side and I knew I could handle it.”
How did it feel to be part of the first couple put in the truth booth?
“When they picked me right out of the jump I was just like ‘okay here we go, let’s get it started.’ We kind of had an idea that we were going in because we had such a great chemistry. It was very genuine, it wasn’t fabricated, you know? So that’s what was cool about it.
When we went in, we were like ‘okay we’re going in,’ but as we were going in I was nervous. I’m kept thinking could we be a match? Could we not be? Is it too early? It was terrifying, but it was also exciting. I was anxious, there were a whole bunch of emotions going on. (laughs).”
Like you just said, you and Tori (Deal) had a chemistry and you vibed from the very beginning. So how did it feel when you two weren’t a match?
“For me, I couldn’t really see why, but at the same time it was the first day and we had to keep going on with the game. It was a little heartbreaking because I had such a great chemistry with her. I wouldn’t have minded us being like ‘okay we’re out of here! We’re going to the honeymoon suite!’”
Did you have anyone else in mind that first day?
“No, it was the first day! The first day we had such great chemistry, so I was just like ‘yo, that’s the one!’ I didn’t really talk to the other women or stuff like that. Tori and I were just very natural, having fun but we’d also be lovey dovey. So I definitely had her as my number one.”
If you were to win the whole million dollars right now, what would be the first thing that you would do?
“I would just bank it. I would bank it then come up with a strategic business plan so that I could never go broke again. Straight up. (laughs).”
