With anticipation building for 13 Voices, the first album from Sum 41 since 2011’s Screaming Bloody Murder, fans were given a treat July 29 with the release of the band’s video for “Fake My Own Death,” the lead single off of 13 Voices.

“I just wanted to get away from everything that I had been doing. I needed to start a new life-like faking my own death,” said lead singer Deryck Whibley on the new song. Along with the rest of the tracks from 13 Voices, “Fake My Own Death” was written after Whibley’s four-month long hospital stay as he began to relearn motor skills. This experience shows through the song as Whibley pleads for something that’s real.

For long-time fans of Sum 41, the song is an indicator of the sincerity and energy that will be running through 13 Voices when it’s released October 7.

“I can’t say whether this is our best record or not, as I don’t know if it is,”  says Whibley. “All I can say is I did the best I possibly could during the toughest period of my life.”

For those fans unable to wait until the release of the album for their fill of Sum 41, the band will be performing on this summer’s Warped Tour.
