The MTV VMA’s Return to New York City

MTV is bringing the Video Music Awards back to New York City! For the first time ever in the show’s 33-year history, it will be held in the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, on Sunday, August 28th. The show has been held in New York City 16 times in the past, but usually in venues such as the Barclays Center or the original home, Radio City Music Hall.
Year after year, the VMAs come with something new, crazy, and exciting that you just don’t want to miss. Just recently, Taylor Swift and Kanye brought back to light their famous incident that occurred back in 2009. Or in her own words, a narrative that she had never asked to be a part of. And who can forget the last time the awards show was held in New York back in 2013! Miley Cyrus twerked her way out of her cute Hannah Montana image and into a crazy wild ride that I still haven’t even begun to understand.
In celebration of the VMAs in NYC, the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and MTV are partnering for the first time on a new video contest for New Yorkers ages 16 and over. Contestants will be asked to create a 30-second video answering the question: “If you could take your favorite VMA artist anywhere in NYC, where would it be and why?” Up to five winners will have the opportunity to attend the VMAs and to walk the red carpet along with some of today’s biggest stars, and their videos will be aired on Taxi TV in NYC yellow cabs. Up to 75 runners-up will also receive an opportunity to visit MTV, learn about its programming and take a tour of the network’s studios, courtesy of Viacom. Full contest details are available here.
