Iliza Shlesinger Leads Freeform Into The Late Night Arena

There’s a new late night television host in town, and she’s ready to go toe to toe with the best of them. Freeform announced that it is making its bold entrance into late-night with comedian Iliza Shlesinger and has greenlit development on her new series.
Karey Burke, executive vice president, Programming, and Development, knew that entering the late night arena meant that they needed to bring something new to the table. “We were looking for a voice that speaks to and for our audience, and we have found it in Iliza,” said Burke in a release. “We weren’t just looking to get into late-night for the sake of it—it’s Iliza’s brilliantly modern take on culture, relationships, and gender politics that made her vision for a series undeniable to us.”
For Shlesinger, the series means her hard work has paid off, as she’s had her sights set on this for quite some time. “A late-night show has been THE goal for me, and I’m ready to throw my hat into the ring,” said Shlesinger. “I couldn’t be more excited to work with Freeform because they understand my voice as a comedian and are allowing me the freedom to create something special. I can’t wait to put my stamp on the late-night format.”
This is the latest in a string of success for Iliza – she premiered her scripted web series Forever 31 on ABC’s new digital platform (ABCd) earlier this summer, and the series has already been ordered for a second season. Her third Netflix special “Confirmed Kills” premieres on September 23, and will be followed by her first national theatre tour “Iliza: The Confirmed Kills Tour.” In spring 2017, Weinstein Books will publish her first book “Girl Logic.”
Iliza Shlesinger, Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner, David Martin and Kara Baker from Avalon Television (“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” and “Catastrophe”) will all serve as executive producers on her late-night series.
