TNWU Weekly Superlatives (September 25th-October 1st)

Ah, do you smell that? Fall is in the air. Better yet, fall is on our TV screens. Fall TV is now in full-swing, and many new TV shows have caught our eye. Some of these new shows have made it onto this week’s list, while other shows have kept their place on the superlatives.
TALK NERDY WITH US WEEKLY TV SUPERLATIVE AWARDS:
Most Badass Character: Blindspot
Jane
Is there anything this woman can’t do? Even as her former colleagues at the FBI doubt her every move, she’s got their back. She has no idea who she’s supposed to be, caught between the person she was and the person she’s been since her memory was erased. And yet, she continues to show up and do her job, risking her life regularly to be a part of the team. And she’s gooooood at that job, by the way. Total badass. (Contributed by Tamar Barbash)
Most Lovable Character: Pitch
Ginny Baker
Ginny is my absolute favorite character of the new TV season. Talented, smart, unintimidated by the man’s world she lives in, it is impossible not to love her. She knows exactly who she is and what it means to be a part of this ball club. I have adored her since minute one of the pilot, and this week it was especially fun to see some of her teammates warming up to having her on the team. (Contributed by Tamar Barbash)
Bad Guy/Girl of the Week: Blindspot
Roman
It’s so tempting to want Jane to find comfort and love with her real family, but they keep proving to be absolutely ruthless. This week, as Jane tries to reason with her brother, explaining why it doesn’t make sense to kill a man who has the information they need, Roman sighs disappointingly and shoots the man himself, from about five feet away. He doesn’t feel an ounce of remorse, other than the fact that he wished Jane had done it so he could be sure of her loyalty. Shivers. (Contributed by Tamar Barbash)
Best Kiss: Once Upon a Time
Emma and Hook
Things heat up between Emma and Hook! It’s been emphasized many times that this is a family show, but the couch scene between the savior and pirate went a little over the edge (in a good way!). Unfortunately, the scene was cut short due to new visitors in Storybrooke. (Contributed by Madeline Klepec)
Most Swoon-Worthy Scene: Scream Queens
Dr. Bolt and Chad in the Shower
Last week, we had John Stamos as Dr. Bolt in the shower. This week, we had both Dr. Bolt and Chanel’s former boyfriend in the shower. (And even though Chad is a jerk, he’s a hot jerk). Then we had Dr. Bolt and Chad in the shower together. Sigh. Fanservice at its finest. (Contributed by Arlene Allen)
Honorable Mention: Lethal Weapon (Martin Riggs nude on the beach)
Biggest OTP Moment: Chicago P.D.
Linstead
I didn’t think it could get much better after Erin told Jay she wants him to live with her and that she’s completely in love with him at the beginning of this week’s episode. BUT, then Jay straight up told Erin that he loves her too at the end of the episode, and I DIED. Seriously, if my roommates were not asleep while I was watching, I probably would have screamed with joy. I had a conversation about this exact moment with fellow TWNU writer Gina the day before this episode aired. We were discussing how much we wanted a legit “I love you” and that if anyone was more likely to say it, it would be Jay. Like last week, cue my heart melting all over the place after watching Linstead once again. (Contributed by Bryna Kramer)
Most Emotional Scene: Fear the walking dead
Alicia and Madison
Madison and Alicia’s relationship has been anything but ideal in recent episodes, and it reached a climax in “Date of Death” with a confession. Alicia’s father’s death wasn’t an accident, but a suicide, and it is this truth that helps shed some light on the strain that has been put on their relationship. Madison has focused her attention on Nick because he’s so much like his father, and she knew that Alicia was strong. It’s a confession, an apology, and forgiveness all in one highly emotional and touching scene.
Most Heartbreaking Moment: Once Upon a time
Rumple and Belle Meet Their Son
Rumple goes to Morpheus and asks how he can wake Belle from her magical sleep. Morpheus tells him, and Rumble enters Belle dreams, and takes her back to when they first met, except changing his behaviors to loving. (Including a wrenching recreation of their honeymoon dance). But even subconsciously Belle rejects him. Then Morpheus steps in – and says he is not Morpheus, but their son, grown. He tells Belle never to trust his father, and Belle vows she will protect him at all costs. She does wake, but flees from Rumple….leaving RumBelle shippers (like me) in tears. Honorable Mention: NCIS: Los Angeles (Kensi being pinned under the plane wreckage)
Most Heartwarming Moment: This is us
Randall and Kevin and Kate
Even though this show had only aired one episode prior to this week, I was dying to see a scene where all three siblings interacted. This week we finally got that scene, and it was one of the most heartwarming scenes I have ever seen. Kevin calls Randall late at night to ask for his advice about what he should do with his show’s contract. It gets deep quickly with Kevin asking Randall whether or not he was a good brother growing up. Randall quickly answers, “No, you weren’t. But you still got time.” Cue the tears. Then, all three of them go through the “Big Three” ritual that they used to do with their father growing up. Cue the sobs. (Contributed by Bryna Kramer)
Funniest Scene: Criminal Minds
Garcia isn’t very good with words
Garcia isn’t very fond of the new guy, Luke Alvez, and when she gets stuck in an elevator with him, it quickly becomes apparent that small talk is not her forte. To sum it up, verbal diarrhea with unintended sexual innuendos. They are discussing their weekend, and Garcia says that she stayed at home with her boyfriend who helped her with her fingering techniques…for her clarinet. Awkward, but hilarious.
Best Action Scene: Lethal Weapon
Riggs’ jump
Actually, Riggs made two spectacular jumps this week, but the most jaw-dropping is when he is on the roof with an intended sniper victim, grabs said victim, leaps from the roof and crashes through the window of an apartment *across the street *. Insane, but impressive. (Contributed by Arlene Allen)
Cutest Moment: Speechless
Kenneth and JJ
After Maya believes Kenneth is not fit to be JJ’s aide, he proves her wrong. He helps JJ use the bathroom, and it’s such a sweet scene where you can tell the bond between them is perfect. (Contributed by Madeline Klepec)
Most Shocking: This is Us
Rebecca with a New Husband
The last scene of the episode was a twist I should have seen coming, but alas, I did not. Present day Randall gets a visit from his parents, “grandma and grampa” according to the kids. When viewers finally see Rebecca (aka Mandy Moore with a lot of makeup), they also see that the man next to her is not Jack, but rather his best friend, Mike. Rebecca was still wearing the moon necklace that Jack had given her earlier in the episode which leaves so many questions as to what exactly happened to Jack in the 36 years since the kids were born. Performer of the Week: Fear The Walking Dead
Lorenzo Henrie as Chris Manawa
Lorenzo deserves a round of applause for his portrayal of Chris, not only in “Date of Death,” but throughout the series. He started out as an innocent kid trying to figure out what was going on in the world, and he’s transformed into a young man who has chosen to go down a much darker path. His acting is spot on, and it’s heartbreaking watching Chris make decisions that we, as an audience, know aren’t good ones.
Honorable Mention: You’re the Worst (Desmin Borges as Edgar Quintero)
