‘The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2’ recap: Paulie’s decisions come back to bite him as final begins

This season of The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2 has been all about Paulie and Cara’s alliance running things on both the US and UK teams. Well, in Wednesday’s episode, Paulie’s decision came back to bite him in the ass.

In case you missed it, here’s a recap of what went down:

The final challenge begins!

After weeks of challenges, drama, and eliminations, the final challenge is upon us. Team USA consists of Paulie, Cara Maria, Leroy, Ninja Natalie, Kam, Ashley, and Zach while Team UK has Rogan, Dee, CT, Jordan, and Tori. The first part of the final challenge sees both teams carry a weighted down gurney 16 miles through the jungle. So this is all about strategy and pace.

But that’s not all. There is a checkpoint at the end of every lap and the team must complete the checkpoint to continue on through the jungle. All of this while the blazing sun is beating down on them won’t make things easy.

Paulie’s choices come back to haunt him

As I said, Paulie and Cara have been running things all season with the goal being to get the strongest competitors, like Josh, Wes, Bananas, and Jordan, out early in the game. Paulie did just that and now he is left with a team full of weak players.

Cara struggled to eat a plate of bugs at one checkpoint (to be fair, I would too. Yuck!) and holds up Team USA longer than they needed to. Earlier, she struggled to solve a math problem correctly. And in general, the girls on Team USA are struggling to carry the heavy gurney through the jungle. So all the confidence the Americans had coming into the final is out the window at this point. Zach yells at Paulie and blames him for getting rid of the stronger players, and he’s not wrong.

Paulie bites the dust – literally!

So as you can guess, this is not a good episode for Paulie. He basically had to do the majority of the heavy lifting since Dee, Kam, and Cara weren’t strong enough to do it. It took a toll on Paulie and his body gave out more than once.

Things got dangerous and downright scary as the episode ended with him passing out on the jungle floor with production calling over the medical staff to attend to him. I may not be the biggest Paulie fan, but that was still very tough to watch.

The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2 concludes next Wednesday at 9/8c on MTV.
