Seeking Empire Interview with Phil Pristia
Seeking Empire is a combination of the vocal talents of Nikki Aclaro (Lead Singer of Mud), Phil Pristia (Guitarist for Phantom Kicks), Paul Thomas (Bassist for Good Charlotte), Alan Kao (Guitarist for Mud), and Cary LaScala (Drummer for The Lovemakers) Together they combined their musical talents to form their newest project Seeking Empire. We were fortunite enough to interview them, so check out what they have to say below!
What provoked you five to start playing music together?
“We all had our own projects, and it was an idea Alan had for quite a while. It all kind of made sense, we talked about it and decided to go for it!”
What is it like working with other successful musicians?
“It’s great for each of us because we can learn a lot from each other. It can be a little surreal at times.”
You’re female fronted, do you find that to be an advantage or disadvantage in this industry?
“It doesn’t really matter if it’s female fronted or not, in my opinion. This industry is extremely difficult as it is.”
Who are some of the bands biggest influences?
“Yanni, The River Dance guy, the tiger in Siegfried and Roy. Oh, and Deftones, Foo Fighters, Crosses, Sparta, etc.”
How has it been working your way back up in the music industry, after being in bigger bands?
“It’s still very difficult, because the industry changes so quickly. A lot of people that you used to know aren’t doing the same thing they once were.”
What is it like being unsigned? Do you think this is helping or hurting the band?
“These days, I don’t think it’s necessarily hurting us, as we’re still trying to create a fan base. But we are definitely trying to get signed for support.”
Have any of you ever regretted choosing music as your career path?
“No way, I mean, all the women, cash, fame…..or…full-time job, being broke, no fame. But, nothing compares to the feeling of creating something you are truly passionate about. I don’t regret it.”
What is your favorite part about performing?
“The adrenaline you get on stage, and getting away with playing guitar very very loud.”
Can you describe your writing process?
“Is it a group effort, or mostly one band member? In the beginning it starts with myself and Paul. Once we have the skeleton of the song done, we bring it to the rest of the group and they add their touches.”
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans, or new potential fans?
“Thank you for all of your love and support. We couldn’t be doing what we’re doing without you. There are also some special people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help us out, for that we’re eternally grateful! And to any potential new fans, hit us up. Stay tuned, and keep an eye out! We love hearing from you!”
