Album Review: The Break Lights ‘Ladies’
New Jersey-bred Indie Rock quartet The Break Lights recently released their four track EP ‘Ladies’ on April 19th via bandcamp, and it’s sure to give female fans something to sing along to.
‘Caroline’ kicks things off in mellow fashion — with clean guitars and slow-tempo percussion setting the tone for a relaxed listening experience from the outset. This track has a distinct, vintage feel, channeling the likes of James Taylor and Van Morisson — with a vocal delivery as laid-back as the accompanying instrumentation.
‘Fight It Fearless’ continues the unassuming air of the opener — the addition of another vocalist adding another layer to the track and injecting variation into the mix. The easy-listening vibe continues here, a prevailing theme thus far.
The rest of the EP follows suit, and, with two out of four tracks named after “ladies,” this, too, is a prevailing theme. Fans of up-tempo fare may be put off by the slow drawl of ‘Ladies,’ but, if you’re in the mood to put your feet up and unwind, this is the ideal soundtrack for you — man and lady alike.
