Where Are They Now: The “Sex and the City” Edition

The clothes, the writing, the characters, the drama—these are just a few of the reasons why Darren Star’s hit romantic sitcom Sex and the City remains one of the most adored series of all time. Broadcast on HBO from 1998 to 2004, the show followed the lives of a group of four women living in New York, three of whom were in their mid-thirties and one in her mid-forties, who, despite their different personalities and roller-coaster relationships, continued to be inseparable throughout their lives. Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Catrall, Kristen Davis and Cynthia Nixon, the quirky series was known for tackling contemporary social issues, including sexuality, promiscuity and femininity. Over the course of its six-year run, the show received critical acclaim and praise due to its subject matter and characters, winning seven Emmy awards, eight Golden Globe awards and three Screen Actors Guild awards. It also inspired two feature films—Sex and the City (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010)—as well as a prequel series on the CW called The Carrie Diaries.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been twelve years since this monumental show ended and, although reruns continue to air on a multitude of channels to this day, the actresses and actors have long since moved on to other things. So, where are your favorite Sex and the City cast members now? Keep reading to find out!
Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw)
Before scoring the role of Carrie Bradshaw, columnist, author and narrator of Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker was already well on her way to becoming an accomplished actress. She was a series regular on the shows Square Pegs, A Year in the Life and Equal Justice. In addition, she starred in the movies L.A. Story, Honeymoon in Vegas, Ed Wood and Hocus Pocus. While Sex and the City was on the air, she landed roles in the movies The First Wives Club, Extreme Measures, Mars Attacks!, Til There Was You, Dudley Do-Right and Life Without Dick. After the show ended, she continued to divide her attention between the small and big screens. Her post-Sex and the City film credits include: Strangers With Candy, The Family Stone, Failure to Launch, Smart People, Did You Hear About the Morgans?, I Don’t Know How She Does It, New Year’s Eve and All Roads Lead to Rome. She also guest-starred on the show Glee and played Frances in the recent series Divorce.
Kim Cattrall (Samantha Jones)
Samantha Jones was my favorite character on Sex and the City, and no one could’ve played her better than Kim Cattrall. Like Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall already had an impressive resume before being cast in the show. She was a guest star on the shows Quincy M.E., Logan’s Run, Switch, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, Columbo, Starsky and Hutch, The Incredible Hulk, The Night Rider, Charlie’s Angels, Tucker’s Witch, Trapper John, M.D., Dream On, The Outer Limits and Rugrats. She also starred in the movies Mannequin, Masquerade, Midnight Crossing, Smokescreen, The Return of the Muskateers and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. In addition, she was a guest star on The Simpsons and Any Human Heart. In 2011, she was cast as the character Dee in the show Producing Parker, and in 2014, she was cast as Davina Jackson in the show Sensitive Skin, a role which she is still playing now.
Kristin Davis (Charlotte York)
Prior to being cast as Charlotte York on Sex and the City, Kristin Davis was involved in a plethora of other shows. She got her start on the soap opera General Hospital as Nurse Betsy Chilson. Then, she was a guest star on the shows Mann & Machine, The Larry Sanders Show, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and ER before landing a regular role on the show Melrose Place. After Sex and the City ended, she ventured into voice acting, lending her voice to the character Miss Spider on Miss Spider’s Sunny Patch Friends. She also landed roles in the movies Shaggy Dog, Deck the Halls, Couples Retreat and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. In 2014, she was cast as Ginny Taylor-Clapp on the TV show Bad Teacher, which is her most recent role.
Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbs)
Like the other three, Cynthia Nixon already had quite a bit of acting experience under her belt by the time she was cast in Sex and the City. In 1988, she played Alex Tanner in the TV mini-series Tanner ’88. After that, she started to guest star on a multitude of shows, such as The Equalizer, American Playhouse, The Young Riders, Law and Order, Monty, New York News, Early Edition and Touched by an Angel. The year that Sex and the City ended, she reprised her role as Alex Tanner in the show Tanner on Tanner. Then, she scored guest roles on the shows ER, House M.D., Three Pounds, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and Law and Order: Criminal Intent. In 2010, she landed the part of Rebecca on The Big C. Her other television credits include recurring roles on the shows World Without End, Alpha House and Hannibal. She recently starred in the movies James White and The Adderall Diaries, and can soon be seen in A Quiet Passion as Emily Dickinson.

In addition, he starred in the movies My One and Only, Frame of Mind, Lovelace, Elsa & Fred and After the Ball. Fans can expect to see him in the upcoming films Chronically Metropolitan and White Girl.

Fans can also see him in the upcoming show Boyband.
Jason Lewis (Jerry “Smith” Jarrod)

Fans can anticipate seeing him in the upcoming films Half Magic, Palm Swings, Isolated Victim and Running Wild.
Evan Handler (Harry Goldenplatt)
Harry Goldenplatt was another of my favorite characters on Sex and the City, and Evan Handler played him marvelously. Before joining the cast, Evan Handler was a series regular on the shows Woops! and It’s Like, You Know. He also guest starred on the shows Sibs, New York Undercover, Law & Order, The West Wing, The Guardian, Friends and Six Feet Under. After Sex and the City ended, Handler continued his trend of guest-starring on multiple television shows, adding Without a Trace, Jack and Bobby, Joan of Arcadia, 24, Hot Properties, CSI Miami, Lost, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Necessary Roughness to his already extensive resume. In 2007, he scored the role of Charlie Runkle in Californication, which he played until 2014. In 2015, he landed the role of Duncan Porter on The Astronaut Wives’ Club.
