LA Film Festival Lineup
People of color have always struggled with trying to forge a place in the Hollywood film industry, and this year has been no different. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you remember the trend OscarsSoWhite going viral after, for at least the second year in a row, the Oscar nominations featured next to no people of color.
With the Los Angeles Film Festival coming up in a little less than a month, the festival announced the official line up and get this: it has people of color and women too. It’s a summer time miracle!
This year, the lineup is packed with 42 world premieres, 43% of them directed by women and 38% by people of color.
With such a diverse lineup, I’m looking forward to enjoying the festival myself. The festival will take place June 1-9 in Culver City and is said to open with the premiere of “Lowriders,” starring Demian Bichir and Eva Longoria.
