The Good Place Renewed for Second Season at NBC

Nobody’s perfect, and definitely pobody’s nerfect, but “The Good Place” has proven itself worthy of a second season.

Following its jaw-dropping season finale, the NBC comedy from executive producer and creator Michael Schur has received a full-season order of 13 episodes. The announcement was made late Monday afternoon by Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment.

“Mike Schur has always had one of the most fertile and imaginative minds in comedy, but what he brought us with the first season of ‘The Good Place’ was just extraordinary,” Salke said. “We absolutely can’t wait to see where these characters go, literally, in season two. A big thank you to Mike, the writers and cast for delivering a series in which we all take such enormous pride.”

D’Arcy Carden, who plays the cosmically lovable Janet, echoes Salke’s praise for Schur. When discussing the mysteries of the show’s freshman season, Carden noted, “He is such a genius, and such a world creator, and there’s no stone left unturned.”

In its rookie season, “The Good Place” averaged a 1.9 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.1 million viewers overall in “live plus seven-day” figures from Nielsen Media Research. The show’s Jan. 19 season finale delivered 5.2 million viewers after three days of time-shifted and video-on-demand viewing, for the show’s biggest L+3 audience since Oct. 27.

In its season finale, it was revealed that The Good Place is actually The Bad Place and Michael is the architect of destruction (Kind of explains kicking a dog into the sun right?). He designed this neighborhood as a special means of torture for Chidi, Eleanor, Tahani, and Jason. So, what can fans expect going forward?

Though no official plot details have been released, William Jackson Harper, who plays the fatally indecisive Chidi, has said his favorite thing about the show is its unpredictability. “You know, you can really expect anything to happen,” Harper said. “Anything can happen in this show, and that’s why I love it so much. There’re no limits.”

“The Good Place” stars Ted Danson, Kristen Bell, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto and D’Arcy Carden.
